There’s an incredible circle of suppliers and brands at supermarque. Sebastian Vetter is one of these remarkable individuals, and we had the pleasure of sitting down with him to delve into the creation of his beautiful store, Von und Zu Tisch, nestled in the heart of Berlin Mitte, as well as his personal journey.
Who are you?
My name is Sebastian, and I work here at Von und Zu Tisch. It's a delicatessen store where we sell food mostly from the Mediterranean area, but we always say that good quality doesn't end at the borders. Because of that, we are not just focused on a particular part of the world. Our goal is to find great food and bring it to people.
How did it all start?
My wife and I were working in advertising, but we wanted to do something new and make our dream come true. We shared a passion for travel and bringing back unique finds from our journeys. Von und Zu Tisch was born out of this desire to bring a piece of "somewhere" (Von) to "somewhere else" (Zu)
Where do you discover new trends?
From people who tell me stories or by finding them myself.
What’s your current obsession?
My current obsession? I want to have a good life and be relaxed to make other people happy.
What’s your favorite product at your store?
At the moment, it's a really high-class Bolognese sauce. I love to cook Bolognese, but I can't make it this way.
Are you a minimalist or maximalist?
Sometimes minimalist and sometimes maximalist.
What can you say about your style?
I try to dress casually. I like blue and grey. I choose the things that I like. I'm not so concerned about my style. I care more about the products I'm selling. I'm just looking to ensure that the products have a good look, good quality, and a nice story.
What’s your favorite supermarque product?
There's one thing; it's called Binchotan. It's pretty cool. It's a water filter from Japan. It comes from the Japanese tea tradition to clear the water. It's very cool because you don't have the plastic you normally have with water filters. You can even grill with it. It’s a bit expensive for that purpose, but it lasts a long time.
What’s your favorite thing about supermarque?
I like Marc. (laughs) I'm proud to be part of the project and hope we'll have a lot of fun together.
If you’re around Berlin and have the opportunity to check out the Von und Zu Tisch store, you should definitely go and have a taste of Sebastian’s curations. We sell the Binchotan filter he was talking about (shameless plug...)
